Airline proposals for possible additional regular flight to the Malvinas Islands

Thursday, 26 July 2018
Information for the Press N°:
307/18

The various proposals submitted following the joint work by the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom to identify airlines from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay willing to operate an additional regular flight between the continent and the Malvinas Islands with stops at a major airport on the Argentine mainland are still under review by the competent Argentine authorities.

Once all of the submitted proposals have been duly assessed by the Argentine Government in terms of their viability and convenience, if one of them is selected, the relevant authorization will be granted, in accordance with Argentine law and within the scope of the applicable air services agreements.

It should be noted that this process is being conducted within the framework of the Joint Statement and the Exchange of Notes signed by the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom under the sovereignty formula on 14 July 1999, which constitute the legal basis for flights between the Malvinas Islands and third countries.
