Today at the Palacio San Martín, the Argentine Foreign Minister, Jorge Faurie, received the Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond, who arrived in the country this morning with an outstanding delegation of businesspeople.
Prior to his meeting with Faurie, Hammond was received at the official residence in Olivos by President Mauricio Macri. This is the first visit by a member of the British Cabinet since 2002.
"I think we are in a very productive context for the relationship between Argentina and the United Kingdom. We firmly believe that trade and investments are the best tools to expand development, create more and better jobs and be more competitive," stated Foreign Minister Faurie.
At the reception, which was also attended by the Minister of Treasury, Nicolás Dujovne, and the Minister of Finance, Nicolás Caputo, the Foreign Minister said: "Argentina has entered into a new stage, opening up to the world with clear rules for trade, and the United Kingdom is a major investor globally and in our country."
"Today Argentina offers interesting opportunities in various sectors, such as infrastructure, energy, communications, technology and services. We therefore hope that the United Kingdom increases its investment and trade participation," he added.
In turn, Hammond stated: "I have come with some representatives of the most dynamic sectors of the UK's economy, and they are really interested in the trade opportunities offered by Argentina.
My message in this trip is clear: we want the United Kingdom and Argentina to strengthen their trade relations and work together as partners to achieve this goal. This is a challenge lying ahead of us to achieve concrete results," he explained.
