Argentine literature reaches out
The 2018 edition of the Bogota International Book Fair (FILBO) will take place from 17 April through 2 May, and Argentina will be the Guest of Honour. The Fair is one of Colombia's most representative and traditional cultural events. It is a 14-day event that will be attended by over 500 thousand people, who will participate in 1200 activities with authors, book presentations and internationally recognized cultural performances. FILBO is certainly one of the most important literature-related events in Latin America.
The Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs and Worship are in charge of managing the 3000 m2-Argentine pavilion, which will have a 900 m2-food court. The pavilion will feature cultural activities, book presentations, workshops and talks by the authors that make up the Argentine delegation and from other countries participating at the Fair. The pavilion assigned to Argentina as the Guest of Honour will serve as an opportunity to show Argentina's culture to the world through our literature.
The large delegation of Argentine authors travelling to FILBO will include: Eduardo Sacheri, Pablo Golombek, Edgardo Cozarinsky, Isol, María Teresa Andruetto, María Verónica Ramírez, Alberto Manguel, Leopoldo Brizuela, Pablo De Santis, Adela Basch Silvia Molloy, María Sonia Cristoff, Arturo Carrera, Ivonne Bordelois, Martín Sivak, Andrés Neuman, and Antonio Santa Ana. In addition, Ariel Ardit and Chango Spasiuk will be among the guest artists on the schedule of activities to be carried out by the Argentine delegation in Bogota.
Furthermore, within the 2018 FILBO activities, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (Undersecretariat of Trade Promotion and Investment Development), and the Argentine Investment and Trade Promotion Agency will invite Argentine publishing houses and book distribution companies to participate in the Professional Seminars.
The Argentine Ministry of Culture will especially support the participation of a delegation of Argentine publishers and distributors - by providing them with 15 (fifteen) international tickets - with a view to facilitating the creation of trade links and the dissemination of book catalogues and to foster cooperation with other book-related professionals. The selection process will be managed by experienced experts with long careers in different areas of the publishing industry.
Publishing houses wishing to apply must be based in Argentina and have at least 15 (fifteen) titles in their catalogue. In addition, they must have published at least 5 (five) titles in the last two years and have some experience in participating at international fairs. As for distributors, application requirements include: working across the entire national territory and distributing the titles of at least 5 (five) Argentine publishing houses.
