Argentina - Bolivia: Bilateral Technical Meeting

Today in Buenos Aires, a Bilateral Technical Meeting between Argentina and Bolivia was held within the framework of the close political dialogue with the neighbouring country.

The meeting was chaired by the Undersecretary for Affairs of the Americas of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Leopoldo Sahores, and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Bolivia, María del Carmen Almendras Camargo. The meeting was attended, among other officials, by the Minister of Health of the Province of Jujuy, Gustavo Bouhid, and the General Coordinator of Institutional Relations of the Ministry of Public Health of the Province of Salta, Wenceslao Saravia Toledo.

At the meeting, participants addressed issues of bilateral interest, such as energy and physical integration, transboundary water resources, cooperation in defence and space affairs and bilateral trade.

A special emphasis was put on health care and the two delegations expressed their willingness to address this issue and find a solution. Argentina stated that access to health care is of utmost importance and highlighted its interest in establishing a viable, equitable and reciprocal health care system. In that vein, Argentina will submit to Bolivia a draft agreement containing provisions on urgency and emergency situations, technical cooperation among hospitals and border assistance, and health promotion and prevention actions, among others. Bolivia reiterated its willingness to advance on this issue and to explore possible regulations to solve the matter.
