Within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on Consular Cooperation and the Argentina-Brazil Plan of Action signed between the presidents of both countries on 7 February, which evidences the priority assigned to bilateral integration and consular cooperation, it has been decided to advance with test trials at Joint Consulates and in coordination actions between Argentine and Brazilian consulates located in cities where nationals of both countries reside.
Foreign policy with a focus on Argentina's smart insertion into the world, with MERCOSUR as a platform and based on our country's integration with Brazil, is mainly reflected in the priority assigned to citizens and to ensuring the welfare of national communities in both countries. Thus, one of the main bilateral coordination actions undertaken is the Joint Itinerant Consulates Programme, which had been announced by Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie at the working meeting with his Brazilian counterpart held at the Palacio Itamaraty on 14 July.
The Joint Itinerant Consulates Programme, which aims at enabling citizens of Brazil and Argentina in different parts of the world to go to the same places to deal with issues or have applications processed, will be under implementation in Monterrey, Mexico, from 30 August to 1 September 2017.
The establishment of the Itinerant Consulate in Monterrey marks an important step in line with the political determination to strengthen bilateral consular cooperation, by combining customer service, assistance and processing of consular applications with activities for promoting bilateral tourism and cultural events featuring Argentine and Brazilian artists, which foster mutual understanding and integration between the two nations.
