On the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Buenos Aires, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie and his Chilean counterpart, Roberto Ampuero, signed a bilateral agreement on the Refurbishing of Cristo Redentor Border Crossing.

The Foreign Ministers agreed that Cristo Redentor Border Crossing is the most highly transited crossing between Argentina and Chile and that its infrastructure urgently needs modernization and expansion. In that vein, they agreed to work on its comprehensive refurbishment, which will increase its capacity and improve its safety conditions.

Under this Agreement, the two States undertake to promptly begin with the project and provide any necessary funds, while also providing for external funding. The project will be carried out in two stages, from 2018 through 2022.

Foreign Minister Ampuero is participating in the Plenary Session of G20 Foreign Ministers held today at the Palacio San Martín, at the invitation of Argentina, which is the 2018 G20 Chair.
