The Argentine Republic strongly condemns the new nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today.
This nuclear test overtly violates United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013), 2094 (2013), 2270 (2016), 2321 (2016), 2345 (2017), 2356 (2017) and 2371 (2017), which call on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to abide by the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as to abandon all existing nuclear weapons and programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner, and to immediately cease all related activities, including ballistic missile technology launches and other acts of provocation.
The Argentine Republic considers it urgent that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea immediately cease all nuclear tests and related activities, and initiate a verifiable, transparent and irreversible disarmament process, in the light of the threat to international peace and security that these acts represent.
