Today, Foreign Minister Faurie held a meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Fiji, Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, within the framework of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly being held this week in New York.
At the meeting, two agreements on the waiver of transitory visas for tourists and diplomats were signed between both countries. Faurie and Bainimarama agreed that visa waivers are a key factor in the promotion of trade and investment.
Fiji has exempted holders of diplomatic and ordinary passports from visa requirements since 1991. Therefore, these commitments not only guarantee equal treatment but also represent a milestone in the bilateral relationship, given that they are the first agreements signed in 40 years of diplomatic relations.
In addition, the two officials underscored the need to work together not only in multilateral fora but also in strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture and technical support.
