This afternoon, the Argentine Foreign Minister participated in the event to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Argentina and Japan

Foreign Minister Faurie participated in the ceremony to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Argentine Republic and Japan held today at the Kirchner Cultural Centre (CCK), which was attended by the Argentine Vice-president, Gabriela Michetti; the Head of the Federal System of Media and Public Contents, Hernán Lombardi; the Minister of Agro-industry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere; the Japanese Ambassador to Argentina, Noriteru Fukushima, and the diplomatic corps accredited to our country, as well as by national law-makers and representatives of Japanese business, cultural and sports organizations.

Faurie underscored that the Japanese diaspora in Argentina, which currently includes over 50 thousand people, is the third largest diaspora in Latin America: "Argentina has great respect for the Japanese community, who have contributed enormously to the development of our country."

He further stated that "for many years, we disregarded Japan, which is one of the leading players in the current economy," and that "Gabriela Michetti took a first step and paved the way with the May 2016 roadmap, in order to once again afford our economic and trade relationship the importance it must have."

Faurie also underscored that in only two years, "the number of Japanese companies in Argentina increased by 100%. We particularly hope for Japanese investments, because they do not only bring capital and jobs for the Argentine people, but also technological excellence, which characterizes the Japanese people."

The Argentine Foreign Minister stated that "Argentina is a country that offers great opportunities" and that "few countries in the world have the natural and human capital that Argentina has: with Japan's help, capital and technology, we will become a greater country."

In connection with trade, the flow of bilateral trade in 2017 increased by 10% vis-à-vis 2016, and the MERCOSUR - JAPAN dialogue has also shown progress. Japan will succeed Argentina as the Chair of the G20, which brings together the world's 20 major economies. "Argentina is extremely proud to be part of the Troika with Germany and Japan, in order to deliver a message of growth and understanding," Faurie stated.
