Today at the Palacio San Martín, on the occasion of the State Visit of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie held a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart, Ine Eriksen Søreide, and with the Norwegian Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen.
During the meeting, they reviewed the major issues on the bilateral, regional and international agendas.
The most important topics addressed were Argentina's G-20 Presidency; Argentina's OECD membership bid, which Norway supports; the development of the MERCOSUR-EFTA negotiations, and Norway´s significant investment in Argentina since 2016, including the establishment of Norwegian Air (which is expected to invest around USD 4.3 billion in Argentina over the next few years), and the activities carried out by Statoil, the leading Norwegian oil company.
They also addressed bilateral cooperation-related issues, such as Antarctic cooperation, State modernization, and aquaculture.
In order to evidence the close cooperation between the two countries, before the meeting, the Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a regular bilateral consultation mechanism.
On Wednesday 7 March, there will be an investment seminar, with a special focus on tourism, energy, and State modernization, and a seminar on history and Antarctic cooperation, during which an agreement will be signed between the two countries.
