Following a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart and the top economic authorities of Singapore, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie headed today the reopening ceremony of the Argentine Embassy in Singapore, instructed by President Mauricio Macri last 17 February, through Executive Order No. 116/2017.
The ceremony was attended by the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan, the Argentine Ambassador, Federico Barttfeld, local authorities, the diplomatic corps, business and mutual fund representatives, and Argentine nationals residing in the Asian country.
The authorities of both countries welcomed the reopening of the Argentine representation, which they consider a clear sign of a new stage in the bilateral relations, which this year included Foreign Minister Balakrishnan's visit to Buenos Aires last April, as well as the meeting between President Macri and the Singaporean Prime Minister at the last G20 Summit.
In his address, Faurie stressed that the new embassy's primary goal will be to promote Singaporean trade opportunities in order to increase and diversify Argentine product and service exports, not only to the Singaporean market but also to Asia as a whole. He also underscored that the embassy will seek to inform local investors of the opportunities and advantages offered by the new Argentine scenario for the development of projects that benefit both sides.
