The 13th meeting of the Argentina – United States Joint Standing Committee on Nuclear Energy Cooperation (JSCNEC) was held in Villa General Belgrano, Córdoba Province, Argentina, on August 22-26, 2016.
The parties drafted a joint fact sheet to follow up on the civil nuclear cooperation and physical nuclear security commitments made by Presidents Mauricio Macri and Barack Obama during President Obama's visit to Argentina in March, underlining the importance of the JSCNEC as an instrument to enhance bilateral cooperation in the nuclear field.
Both sides discussed nuclear security, nuclear power, radiological security, nonproliferation, and their respective cooperation programmes with other countries and with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The fact sheet also provides information on the potential fields for future nuclear cooperation, such as life extension and material degradation investigations for nuclear reactors, management and disposal of spent fuels and radioactive waste, and advanced fuel research and development, as well as on regulatory aspects of the nuclear sector.
