Today, an economic coordination meeting with Vietnam was held at the Palacio San Martín, chaired by the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Đỗ Thắng Hải, and by the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Horacio Reyser.

At the meeting, it was agreed to promote contacts between the business sectors of the two countries with a view to exploring opportunities that will result in larger trade and investment flows.

The parties welcomed the progress made with the technical cooperation projects under implementation and agreed on the need to foster new projects. In that vein, they agreed to hold a workshop in Vietnam in 2018, aimed at promoting the Argentine capacities and technologies applied to the projects already carried out and those under implementation in Vietnam, and at identifying new prospective working areas.

In addition, an issue of particular importance and sensitivity for both countries was addressed: Argentina's cooperation in the identification of the Vietnam War martyrs, led by the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology.

Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation delivered by INVAP about the company's capacities in the field of space, satellites and nuclear technology, with the aim of jointly exploring cooperation opportunities in those areas.

The trade relationship with Vietnam is of great importance to Argentina, with last year's trade surplus amounting to USD 2,197 billion, which is Argentina's highest surplus in the world. Another highlight is that bilateral trade increased by 45% in 2016, as compared to the previous year.
