Today the Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Carlos Foradori, participated in the Ministerial Meeting held in Vienna on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

Addressing the Ministerial Meeting, Mr Foradori stressed Argentina’s firm support for nuclear non-proliferation efforts and the promotion of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He met with Dr. Lassina Zerbo, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, who thanked Argentina for its support. Mr. Foradori announced that next year Argentina will host the regional course for the Organization’s inspectors.

Foradori also had a work meeting with Li Yong, Director General of the Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with whom he analyzed the strengthening of cooperation between this international agency and Argentina. After being absent for over ten years, Argentina has rejoined the Industrial Development Board.

After that, Foradori met with Aldo Lale Demoz, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Mr. Foradori emphasized Argentina’s strong commitment to global efforts to combat the world drug problem, within the framework of the commitment assumed by the Argentine national government to make the fight against drug-trafficking one of its main goals. In this context, Argentina’s determined participation in mechanisms for the exchange of information and cooperation with the United Nations in this area has been confirmed.

Finally, Foradori had a meeting with Austrian Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Linhart, during which he stated that one of the goals of the Argentine Government is to vigorously relaunch trade and investment with Austria. In this context, a preparatory mission headed by the Austrian Deputy Minister of Economy will visit Argentina next August in order to explore investment opportunities and to make progress in organizing a business mission to take place in the coming months.
