Within the framework of the Antarctic Summer Campaign, Colombian authorities visited Carlini station yesterday, in the context of the "Almirante Tono" fourth Colombian Expedition to Antarctica.
The delegation, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Patti Londoño Jaramillo and by Deputy Defense Minister Anibal Fernandez de Soto, was received by the Head of Carlini station, Major Walter Nahueltripay, and the Head of Scientific Operations, Dolores Deregibus.
The Colombian authorities expressed their interest in learning about the work of the Lab, as well as the technical/computer support coordination tasks and the work of the Diving section.
In addition, three other members of the Colombian Antarctic Programme are carrying out projects in parallel at Marambio station.
Carlini station, located on 25 de Mayo Island, is currently undergoing the time of greatest activity within the framework of the Antarctic Summer Campaign. It is one of the two stations managed by the National Directorate for Antartica, which reports to the Foreign Ministry. Several scientists and technical experts of the Argentine Antarctic Institute (IAA in Spanish), of national bodies that cooperate with the Institute, and of the German Antarctic Programme are carrying out projects at the station within the framework of the Annual Antarctic Plan ((http://www.dna.gob.ar/userfiles/adjuntos/paa1718.pdf ).
The Colombian authorities' visit to Carlini station is part of the Antarctic cooperation efforts that Argentina has recently started to foster with Colombia, which are expected to grow stronger in the near future.
