The Argentine Foreign Ministry deeply regrets the death of Argentine citizens Vanesa Soledad Diaz and Nadia Gisele Urbizaglia after an explosion in their home in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on 20 October.
Following the explosion, an official from the Argentine Consulate General in Mexico travelled to Playa del Carmen to assist the Argentine citizens, who were in hospital, and to obtain medical reports and their prognosis, as well as to cooperate with the political and judicial authorities in charge.
In addition, steps were taken to contact their families in Argentina and an application was made before the Argentine National Registry of Persons for the issuance of an Argentine passport through the express service to enable Vanesa Diaz's brother to travel to Mexico.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry contacted the insurance company that covered the hospital expenses and is responsible for the return to Argentina of the remains of both Argentine citizens. Furthermore, the Ministry is working with the insurance company to cover the rest of the hospital expenses arising from this situation.
The General Directorate for Consular Affairs is keeping contact with both families, providing them with psychological support and all the information given by the Mexican police and judicial authorities to Argentine consular officials.
