Thursday, 03 November 2016
Information for the Press N°:
379/16

The Argentine Foreign Ministry is closely following the situation of Argentine citizen Carolina Ester Pavón, who is experiencing a difficult family situation in Egypt as a result of her divorce from the father of her daughters. The court hearing the case, in accordance with local procedure laws on family matters, forbids Carolina from leaving Egypt until the proceedings are concluded.

The Argentine Embassy in Egypt is conducting negotiations with the high authorities of that country and aids Carolina by providing consular assistance, legal advice and emotional support.

For its part, the General Directorate of Consular Affairs—Directorate of Argentine Citizens Abroad—is in contact with Carolina’s relatives and with the various federal and provincial authorities that have expressed their concern for the situation that citizen Pavón is going through.

The Argentine Republic conveys its utmost respect for both the actions of the Egyptian courts and the professional work of the counsel assisting Ms. Pavón in Egypt and in Argentina.

The Foreign Ministry expresses its confidence that the case will be resolved swiftly and fairly, taking into account the humanitarian aspect and human rights which, to different extents, are involved in this situation.
