The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship regrets to inform that yesterday evening, 23 January 2018, a serious accident involving an Argentine car occurred on National Road BR-470, km. 184, in the locality of Pouso Redondo, Alto Vale do Itajaí region, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
A container truck tried to swerve away from another truck driving in the opposite direction and the manoeuvre caused it to drop its load on an Argentine car carrying five Argentine nationals from the city of Posadas, province of Misiones. The accident claimed the lives of Iris Alejandra Acosta (National Identity Card No. 36.074.367), Carlos Luis Silva (National Identity Card No. 14.946.802) and Nabila Alejandra Silva (National Identity Card No. 50.165.958).
Lorena Alejandra Lindström (National Identity Card No. 24.573.263) and her underage son Lautaro Julián Silva (National Identity Card No. 51.113.486) are no longer at risk and are receiving medical care at Alto Vale do Itajaí Regional Hospital, in Rio do Sul.
The Consulate of the Argentine Republic in Florianópolis took steps immediately by notifying the Tourist Office of the Santa Catarina Civil Police and the Liaison Officer of the Province of Misiones Police assigned to Santa Catarina of the accident. In addition, an official from the Consulate in Florianópolis travelled to the locality of Rio do Sul, 250 km. away from Florianópolis, in order to assist, guide and counsel the victims.
