Within the framework of the Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie held a bilateral meeting today with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Senator Gabriela Cuevas Barron, joined by the President (Speaker) of the House of Deputies, Emilio Monzó, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Federico Pinedo.

Faurie and Cuevas Barron underscored the significance of legislators, as representatives of the people, in raising awareness among productive, economic and social sectors about the importance of the WTO in generating greater stability in global economic relations.

Cuevas Barron underscored and valued Argentina's leadership as head of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) within the IPU and asked that this role be taken advantage of to encourage Caribbean countries that are not yet members of the IPU to join the Union.

For his part, Faurie submitted a note for Argentina to host the next IPU Assembly and underscored that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be represented at the G20 for the first time through the Argentine presidency.
