After the plenary session of the G20 Foreign Ministers, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie met this afternoon with the Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India, Vijay Kumar Singh, with whom he reviewed the bilateral relationship, whose 70th anniversary will take place next year.
Faurie extended to Minister Singh the Argentine Government's invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay a State Visit to Argentina in December this year, after the G20 Leaders' Summit.
Faurie and Singh explored ways of strengthening cooperation between the two governments and private sectors, with the aim of promoting exports and increasing investment in strategic areas, such as infrastructure, agriculture, energy, mining, communications and technology.
Bilateral trade prospects are promising, with bilateral trade amounting to over USD 2.9 billion in 2017, which makes India the 6th destination for Argentine exports, and with a growing number of Indian companies based in Argentina, especially in the industries of machinery and equipment, computer services and chemistry.
Argentina also ratified its willingness to substantially expand the Mercosur-India Preferential Trade Agreement. Finally, the Ministers exchanged views on the main topics to be addressed at the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit, to be held in November in Buenos Aires.
