This morning, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie received a delegation from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), headed by its Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G20, Gabriela Ramos, who is visiting Argentina in order to present the findings of the OECD Multi-dimensional Economic Survey of Argentina. This is the first time that the OECD performs this study on a country that is neither a member of the Organization nor is undergoing its accession process.

The Foreign Minister and Ms Ramos assessed the progress made on Argentina's policy to establish closer relations with the Organization, seeking to obtain membership and to bring its current economic reforms within the framework of the Organization's high standards and good practices.

They also highlighted the considerable progress made on the Argentina-OECD Action Plan 2016-2017, submitted by the Government last June as a demonstration of Argentina's commitment to becoming a member of the Organization.

In addition, the officials exchanged views on the reflection process of Member States as regards the enlargement of OECD membership, and agreed that Argentina's candidacy is widely supported among the Organization's most important Member States, which could lead to an invitation to Argentina from the OECD Council of Ambassadors this semester, in order for the country to begin the accession process.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Argentine Sherpa for the G20, Ambassador Pedro Villagra Delgado, the outcome of the G20 Leaders' Summit held in Hamburg last July was evaluated and the OECD's future collaboration with Argentina during its G20 Presidency in 2018 was discussed.
