"Today is a day of anguish and unrest for all Argentines. We are all very concerned about developments with regard to the situation of the ARA San Juan submarine, which we have been following over the last few days," stated Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie in his address at the "Argentina 2030 - Israel 2048" Meeting, held today at the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
"This morning, through our Embassy in Vienna, where many international organizations have their headquarters, our Ambassador conveyed to us the information given to him in the early hours of the morning by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, of which Argentina is a Member State," Minister Faurie noted. "Alongside the Ministry of Defence and the Office of the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers, we triggered the necessary mechanisms to duly inform the President," he explained.
"We express our support for the people working on this issue and to the families of all the naval officers aboard the ARA San Juan. We remain very hopeful that the work being carried out by the Ministry of Defence will progress," he stated.
Minister Faurie further noted that one of the duties of the Foreign Ministry is to facilitate coordination "so that we can use the generous support offers we have received" in the search efforts. "We sincerely acknowledge and remain grateful for the efforts of the 13 countries that have joined the search and contributed various types of equipment," he concluded.
