Fourth Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting with Saudi Arabia

On 10 November, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Foradori met in Riyadh with his Saudi counterpart, Ambassador Khalid Bin Ibrahim Al Jandan, for the purpose of holding the Fourth Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting between the two countries.

Both delegations highlighted the fact that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, underscoring the high level reached in the bilateral relation over the past few years, with official visits by high-level authorities from both countries, as well as cooperation agreements in a variety of fields such as energy, agriculture and education, as evidenced by the Fourth Bilateral Political Consultation Meeting and the recent official visit to Saudi Arabia by Vice President Gabriela Michetti. In addition to the existing potential in the field of trade and investments, note was taken of the progress made in the implementation of the Agreement for Cooperation on the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and of INVAP’s participation in this regard.

Argentina congratulated Saudi Arabia on the work performed and the outcome of the Fourth ASPA Summit (South American-Arab Countries), held in Riyadh in 2015, recalling the importance of issuing, in the context of ASPA, statements in support of the resumption of negotiations on the Question of the Malvinas Islands, in order to find a peaceful, definitive solution in accordance with the relevant UN declarations.

The situation in the Middle East was also addressed, including the Syria and Yemen conflicts and the serious humanitarian situation created by these conflicts, as well as the evolution of the peace process between Israel and Palestine. Further, Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori referred to the contributions by the White Helmets and the "Syria Programme" for the facilitation of humanitarian visas to help alleviate the serious humanitarian crisis in the region.

At a multilateral level, the Deputy Foreign Ministers addressed the fact that the 2018 G20 Summit will be held in Argentina, and the excellent communication and coordination in this regard between the two countries.
