In relation to the initiative for identification of the remains of Armed Forces members buried at the Argentine cemetery in the Malvinas Islands, on June 13 the Argentine Government authorized the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to carry out a technical assessment mission between 26 June and 5 July 2016.
The authorization was granted in view of the strictly humanitarian nature of the initiative and of the Argentine Government’s commitment to the identification of the remains of fallen soldiers.
On 24 January 2013, the Argentine Republic and the ICRC signed a Headquarters Agreement which provides such institution with facilities throughout the Argentine territory for the proper conduct of its activities, within the framework of its independent, neutral and unbiased international humanitarian mandate.
The assessment mission will deal with practical aspects relating to work aimed at the forensic identification of the remains of Argentine Armed Forces members buried at the Darwin cemetery in Soledad Island.
