Thursday, 05 April 2018
Information for the Press N°:
130/18

The Argentine Government is closely following the investigation carried out by United Kingdom authorities, with the support of experts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), in order to shed light on the use of a nerve agent in Salisbury on 4 March 2018, which seriously affected two Russian citizens residing there and part of the population of Salisbury.

Argentina reiterates its strong rejection of this nerve agent-related incident and its consequences, which constitute a serious breach of the Chemical Weapons Convention and of International Law.
Argentina considers it necessary to use all the mechanisms and instruments provided for under the Chemical Weapons Convention, as well as the means provided by the OPCW, in order for a careful and thorough investigation to be conducted into this incident and those responsible for it.

The Argentine Government strongly believes that a complete and verified elimination of all chemical weapons, as well as strict compliance with the prohibition on the use of chemical weapons by anyone, in any place and under any circumstances, are key to preserving international peace and security, in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
