"The sustainable development goals adopted last year by all UN Member States can be summarized in the aspirational goal proposed by President Macri: the eradication of poverty," stated Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra this morning, at the Palacio San Martín, during the presentation of the Argentine guidelines for the 2030 World Agenda for Sustainable Development, in the presence of Carolina Stanley, Minister of Social Development, and Rene Mauricio Valdes, head of the UN Office in Argentina.

Malcorra explained that "the goals for the 2030 World Agenda for Development are a continuation of the Millennium Development Goals established in 2000, although clear differences exist between them. The original goals had been designed by developed countries for developing countries, but sustainable development goals are the result of a participatory process that is much broader. They are universal, include consultations with civil society, and are aimed at eradicating inequalities, which are present in both developed and developing countries."

Before closing, the Foreign Minister further explained: "This is an integrated and much more comprehensive agenda that combines economic, social and environmental perspectives. It outlines a different working method, which we will need to coordinate with the entire national cabinet and with the provinces, in order to chart a long-term development path."

The World Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in September 2015 during the World Summit held at the UN Headquarters in New York. It outlines 17 goals and 169 targets to be met by 2030. More than a hundred Heads of State assumed the commitment to implement public policies to eradicate hunger, achieve food security, ensure a healthy life, quality education, and gender equality, among other goals.
