Today, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra ended her visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, where she met with Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, and noted: “Algeria is one of our top trading partners, given that our balance of trade is among the most important in terms of surplus.”
Speaking on the radio, the Minister underscored: “There are a number of important opportunities in the agribusiness and automotive sectors, which can give our companies investment and growth opportunities today. Argentina is opening up to the world.”
Today, Malcorra completed her agenda in Algeria with a work meeting with Abdeslam Bouchouareb, Minister of Industry (picture attached), following the meetings she held yesterday with the Algerian Ministers of Commerce, Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, and of Energy, with whom she looked at possibilities for investments and for boosting joint projects in different fields. She also held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.
“A large portion of Algeria is desert land, but there is an extensive freshwater table below, and now the country is considering intensive agricultural development. That is the reason why it sees Argentina as a strategic partner for development,” the Argentine Foreign Minister stated, after holding the 5th Meeting of Political Consultations with her counterpart Minister Lamamra yesterday.
At the meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen existing bonds, especially with regard to nuclear cooperation, and expressed their wish to explore opportunities for the development of new relations in other fields.
