Malcorra visits Japan

Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra will arrive this Thursday in Tokyo for her first official visit to Japan in her capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Argentine Republic.

Malcorra will meet with her counterpart, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, in order to strengthen bilateral relations and intensify political, economic, trade and investment ties with the world’s third largest economy.

The goals of the meeting include regularizing the frequency of the meetings of the bilateral political consultation mechanism, expanding bilateral and triangular technical cooperation programmes, and intensifying trade exchanges and the flow of high-quality Japanese investments in Argentina.

In addition, coordination in international fora will be boosted, particularly in the fight against terrorism, while promoting the organization of high-level political visits to Argentina and Japan.

The Argentine Foreign Minister will have a full agenda of meetings with high-level authorities of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Malcorra will hold meetings with lawmakers, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, and the Japan-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Association. She will also promote trade and investments among Japanese businesspeople linked to Argentina and, at the academic level, she will take part in a conversation hosted by the United Nations University at its headquarters in Tokyo, on the “Future Challenges for the United Nations.“

In addition, the Argentine Foreign Minister will lead the celebrations of Argentina's Bicentenary of Independence, organized by the Argentine Embassy in Japan, in the presence of authorities of the Japanese Government and diplomatic corps, entrepreneurs, businesspersons and representatives of Japanese art and culture.
