Today at the Palacio San Martín, Argentine Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra received the EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, who is on a two-day visit to Argentina.
"Many European companies are finding opportunities in infrastructure plans that have been launched here. Several companies are participating in some of these sectors and in the field of renewable energy. From an investment point of view, we are headed in the right direction. With respect to trade, we continue fostering an increased opening and further opportunities for Argentine exports," explained the Foreign Minister at a press conference after the meeting.
When asked about the progress made in the negotiations over the EU-MERCOSUR agreement, Malcorra stated the following: "Argentina will serve as the president pro tempore of Mercosur, which is why we have established a set of priorities aimed at accelerating the negotiation process. All signs indicate that negotiations between the EU and the United States will be somewhat relegated, and we see this as a great opportunity to accelerate the process of our negotiations. This has been a key focus of our considerations regarding the future of our relations with the EU."
"Europe has very good examples of inclusion of SMEs into value chains. We are working on this at the EU level as well as bilaterally. We are looking for niches that make it possible to transfer knowledge and experience and that offer opportunities to include our SMEs in value chains in Europe," concluded Malcorra.
The European Commissioner, who is concluding her work visit to Argentina today, was received yesterday by President Macri at the Government House.
