Meeting between MERCOSUR chief negotiators and the deputy Minister of trade and investment of the Republic of Korea

1. Ambassadors Ronaldo Costa, Horacio Reyser Travers, Luis F. Avalos Giménez and Valeria Csukasi, Chief Negotiators of MERCOSUR trade agreements, and KIM Youngsam, Deputy Minister of Trade and Investment of the Republic of Korea, met on 10 December 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and agreed on the importance of  promptly entering into negotiations towards a Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and Korea, upon completion of their respective internal procedures.

2. Both sides shared a mutual willingness and understanding that the trade agreement must be consistent with the rules of the World Trade Organization, commercially significant, broad and balanced, taking into account trade in goods, trade in services, investment, economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest.

3. Taking into consideration the complementarity between the commercial structures of the Republic of Korea and MERCOSUR, both delegations agreed that the trade agreement will be instrumental in trade and investment promotion, as well as in the strengthening of existing trade relations between their countries.

4. In addition, both sides reaffirmed that free trade will not only strengthen trade relations but also contribute to further developing political, social and cultural relations, as well as to cooperation between their countries.
