The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen, received UNICEF's newly appointed Representative in Argentina, Roberto Benes, who took office last July.

Roberto Benes, a career UNICEF official for almost 20 years, highlighted the work being carried out in Argentina with regard to the implementation of public policies on childhood in the fields of education, health and social development, which may serve as examples of good practices for other countries in the region and beyond.

In addition, both officials highlighted Argentina's major role in the multilateral arena and, in that regard, they underscored Argentina's commitment to the Organization of the IV Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour, to be held in Buenos Aires on 14-16 November, as well as the importance Argentina intends to place on the issues of education and labour during its G20 Presidency Pro Tempore, especially as regards quality youth employment.

UNICEF's newly appointed Representative expressed his commitment to the constructive role that the organization wishes to assume in our country, as well as the excellent relationship established with the Foreign Ministry, which he hopes can be extended to national and provincial Argentine authorities.
