The Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia has recognized the Argentine official food safety control system for 17 fresh products: grapes, onion, garlic, blueberries, cherries, citrus fruit, grapefruit, wheat, corn, corn flour, oranges, tangerines, soy beans, lemons, nectarines, peaches, and pears.
The relevant Executive Order will enter into force on 11 April 2018 and will remain in force for 3 years. It will only be applicable to the above products. Indonesia thus expands the number of products of the Official Food Safety System approved for export from 10 to 17, also extending through this Executive Order the duration of the approval from 2 to 3 years.
It should be noted that Argentina is part of a small group of countries, also including New Zealand, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Japan, the United States, and France, whose food safety system for fresh products of vegetable origin is recognized.
The success of this negotiation is the result of joint work between the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agro-Industry, the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA), and the Argentine Embassy in Jakarta.
The Indonesian government's decision is also a major recognition for Argentina's continuous efforts to guarantee that exports to Indonesia are safe, and expresses their willingness to maintain the valuable cooperation in food security, for the benefit of the two countries.
Under the administration of President Mauricio Macri, Argentina and Indonesia have revitalized their bilateral relationship, as reflected in the 6th and 7th Meetings of the Joint Committee held in December 2016 and November 2017 respectively, and in the 1st Meeting of the Working Group for Agricultural Cooperation held on 21 March 2017.
