Today, Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra accompanied President Mauricio Macri at the 71st UN General Assembly, at which Argentina delivered the document ratifying its accession to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, signed late last year in Paris.
This morning in New York, the Head of State followed the required procedure by participating in the High-Level Meeting on the Entry into Force of the Agreement, which was called by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Argentina’s accession to the agreement signed by 196 States and the European Union was forwarded by the Argentine Executive to the Argentine Congress, which adopted it on 1 September, with the strong support of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Malcorra then attended the Ibero-American Foreign Affairs Ministers' working breakfast, and subsequently she was in charge, together with the UN Secretary-General, of opening the event "Moving Away from the Death Penalty: Victims and the Death Penalty,” held at the UN conference room.
At noon, the Argentine Foreign Minister participated in the Eighth Ministerial Meeting on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) requested by Germany, Australia, Canada, Finland, Japan, and the Netherlands.
In the early afternoon, Malcorra attended the High-Level Event "Conflict prevention through the inclusion of human rights," and then the High-Level Meeting on the "Global Alliance to eradicate contemporary forms of slavery, forced labour and child labour," requested by the International Labour Organization and the Ford Foundation. It is worth noting that Argentina will host the Global Conference on Child Labour next year.
The Argentine Foreign Minister also attended the High-Level Conference of the UN Trust Fund for the Consolidation of Peace and a series of bilateral meetings.
