On 24 October 2016, in the city of Minsk, the Argentine Republic and the Republic of Belarus held the first political consultation meeting at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.
In this context, Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Foradori signed with his Belarusian counterpart, Deputy Foreign Minister Evgeny Shestakov, a visa waiver agreement for ordinary passports.
The delegations also engaged in a fruitful exchange regarding various aspects of the bilateral relationship, including, among others, the commitments to strengthen mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, improve educational and cultural relations, encourage parliamentary relations, and increase economic and trade relations, investment potential, and scientific-technical cooperation.
Moreover, Belarus’ investment in a truck factory to be built in the Province of Buenos Aires and other potential joint enterprises were discussed.
During the exchange, the delegations also referred to the multilateral agenda and both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as the potential of the relationship between the regional organizations of which they are members.
The parties undertook to have a videoconference between both countries’ business sectors before the end of the year, as well as to hold the second meeting of the Joint Committee in Economic Matters in Minsk in early 2017 and to organize the 2nd Political Consultation Meeting in the second half of 2017 in Buenos Aires.
