Political Consultation meeting with Ukraine

A political consultation meeting between the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Argentine Republic and Ukraine was held on 14 November 2016 in Kiev.

Within this framework, Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori highlighted the strong ties between the peoples of the two countries due to the significant Ukrainian community residing in Argentina. He also pointed out that 2017 marks the 120th anniversary of the first Ukrainian migration to the Argentine Republic and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral political relations.

Furthermore, both delegations welcomed the resumption of bilateral political dialogue, which was kicked off by the meeting between President Macri and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko within the framework of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly on 20 September in New York City.

The Deputy Foreign Ministers conducted an exhaustive and fruitful review of the several aspects of the bilateral relation, which included, among others, the commitments to signing as soon as possible a series of instruments that will promote cooperation on international legal assistance, strengthening educational and cultural relations, promoting parliamentary relations and cooperation in the agri-industry and aerospace fields, and increasing economic and trade relations and investment potential.

Within the framework of the existing cooperation between the two countries, Argentina's potential in terms of biofuels was presented to Ukraine, as well as Argentina's capacity for the exchange of experts in the field of renewable energies.

In terms of education, the two countries welcomed the creation of a Bilateral Expert Committee on Higher Education under the "Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Degrees" signed between both countries, which increases the opportunities of Argentine residents in Ukraine and vice versa.

Finally, the Deputy Foreign Ministers undertook to set a date in the first half of 2017 for the sixth meeting of the Argentina-Ukraine Intergovernmental Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation.
