Today, the Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister, Daniel Raimondi, received the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ryabkov, at the Palacio San Martín, where a Political Consultations Meeting was held between the Foreign Ministries of both countries.
The Deputy Foreign Ministers reviewed the items on the bilateral agenda, such as trade and investment opportunities, cooperation in culture and education, in peaceful uses of nuclear energy and in space matters, as well as Antarctic and inter-parliamentary cooperation, among other issues, and agreed on their mutual interest in continuing to develop and strengthen the bilateral relationship within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also highlighted Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie's upcoming visit to Russia next November, by invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.
The Ministers also addressed cooperation in different multilateral fora, such as the United Nations and other international organizations, and reviewed, among others, issues such as new challenges and threats, disarmament and non-proliferation, peacekeeping and international security, which have been exhaustively analyzed on a technical level at other bilateral meetings.
In addition, the Deputy Foreign Ministers also analyzed the situation of several bilateral agreements already signed or under negotiation, and exchanged opinions on the main topics on the global agenda, the progress made with respect to the relationship between the regional organizations in which both countries participate, and the cooperation prospects at different multilateral fora, particularly the G20, which will be presided over by Argentina in 2018.
As regards the Question of the Malvinas Islands, Deputy Foreign Minister Raimondi thanked Russia for its constant support for the resumption of bilateral negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom, in order to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
