Press release on Venezuela

Friday, 10 June 2016
Information for the Press N°:
181/16

The undersigned Foreign Ministers wish to express their regret at the acts of violence perpetrated in Caracas, where several citizens –including members of Parliament– were assaulted, and they condemn all expressions of violence irrespective of their origin.

In this regard, they reassert that the authorities are responsible for guaranteeing the right to peaceful demonstrations and to freedom of speech, and they call for an investigation to find those responsible for these violent acts, as promised by the Venezuelan government.

Furthermore, they urge that disagreements be settled through peaceful dialogue and democratic methods, hoping that the facilitation process implemented by the former Presidents may have a positive outcome within a reasonable time, for the benefit of all parties involved.
