The Secretary for International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser, heads the inter-ministerial delegation that travelled to Moscow to participate in the 13th Meeting of the Argentina-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation to be held on 7-8 February.
The Commission is made up of Working Groups that address all the issues on the bilateral agenda regarding Economics, Trade and Investment; Agriculture and Fisheries, and Cooperation in Energy and Education, Science and Technology.
In order to address these issues, Secretary Reyser travelled alongside officials of the Ministries of Energy and Mining; Transport; Agro-Industry, and Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, as well as of the National Atomic Energy Commission and the National Service for Agri-food Health and Quality.
The event will also be attended by representatives of the Argentina-Russia Business Council and a delegation of businesspeople and private entities that will hold meetings with their Russian counterparts and participate in the PRODEXPO Food Exhibition.
The high competitiveness of Argentina's agro-industrial products and the huge demand for these products from Russian consumers create expectations that bilateral trade will grow fast.
Cooperation in science and technology is also on the bilateral agenda and the joint work undertaken in fields such as biotechnology, nanotechnology and biomedicine is expected to experience an exponential increase in the next years.
In connection with investment, Russia has already identified fields of interest and is working on projects in areas such as railways, ports, and energy.
The Meeting of the Commission takes place two weeks after President Macri's trip to Russia, so it will serve as an opportunity to follow up on the commitments made during the visit and to review the opportunities identified on the occasion of the working breakfast held by the President with Russian businesspeople.
Argentine exports to Russia amounted to USD 511 million in 2017 and show great potential for growth, which the Argentine authorities and businesspeople will try to boost at the Meeting, with a view to strengthening the Argentina-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
