Statement on Venezuela

Thursday, 29 September 2016
Information for the Press N°:
320/16

The undersigned Foreign Ministers express their concern over the decision of the National Electoral Council of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, dated 21 September, which implies—among other things—adopting a method for collecting 20 percent of the list of voters resulting in a postponement of the recall referendum to 2017, thus having an impact on the purpose of the referendum.

In addition, once again we express our support and willingness to contribute to a dialogue between the Government of Venezuela and each of the Venezuelan political and social actors, in order to promote political stability, economic recovery and the utmost respect for human rights through mutual understanding.
