Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie and his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono, held a telephone conversation this afternoon. Kono informed the Argentine Foreign Minister that Japan supports the structural reforms being carried out by the Argentine Government, as it believes that such reforms will lead to a more open and world-integrated economy.
They specifically addressed Japan's role as a key member of the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund, in the context of the talks with the IMF on the financial assistance agreed on between Argentina and the IMF.
The Ministers further discussed expectations for the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held within the next few days in Buenos Aires, which is of great importance to Japan as it will succeed Argentina as G20 chair next year.
