On 15 August, the Vice President of the United States of America, Michael R. Pence, visited Argentina, where he met with the Argentine President and was also received by the Argentine Vice President, Gabriela Michetti. Both parties confirmed the close and diversified bilateral relations, continuing the dialogue held between both Presidents in Washington DC last 27 April.

Vice President Pence once again underscored Argentina's regional leadership and reiterated the United States Government's strong support for the political and economic reform process currently being implemented by President Macri, which has improved conditions for investment, trade and economic growth.

As regards the bilateral trade agenda, President Macri and Vice President Pence underscored the decision to expand exchange opportunities in the respective beef markets, the market of U.S. pork imports into Argentina, and the market of Argentina's lemons and sweet citrus fruits imports into the United States, among other goods.

The two governments expressed their great concern for the serious political, economic and humanitarian situation in Venezuela and urged the Venezuelan government to solve this crisis through a dialogue with the opposition and the release of all political prisoners. They condemned the rupture of democratic order in Venezuela and the installation of the illegitimate National Constituent Assembly, thus not recognizing its acts. They also agreed to continue working with other countries of the region so as to achieve the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.

They underscored their firm commitment to the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, corruption and other transnational crimes.

They highlighted the importance of maintaining cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology, space matters and energy.

Vice President Pence reiterated the United States' support for Argentina's OECD membership bid and acknowledged Argentina's important role as the organizer and host of the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference and as G20 President as from 1 December of this year.
