Visit to Argentina by Bolivian Foreign Minister

Today, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie received the Foreign Minister of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Fernando Huanacuni Mamani, at the Palacio San Martín. At the meeting, the two Ministers addressed key items on the bilateral and regional agenda, and reaffirmed the historic bonds of friendship and fraternity between both countries.

The officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Creation of a Binational Committee on Trade, Investment and Economic Relations, which will contribute to promoting bilateral trade and reciprocal investments.

The Ministers expressed their interest in strengthening nuclear cooperation between both countries and underscored INVAP's experience in that field.

They also expressed their governments' intention to establish closer relations in space cooperation, in order to take advantage of INVAP's capabilities, as well as in satellite projects and human resource training in Bolivia.

As regards Defence, they highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation on equipment, which Argentina is in a position to offer Bolivia.

The Foreign Ministers reaffirmed the need to sign, as soon as possible, the Agreement on Inter-institutional Strengthening of the Operational Strategy for Police Cooperation, in order to strengthen, improve and enhance the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in particular, through cooperation in the field of information exchange. 

On the issue of health, the Ministers agreed to convene a meeting between the relevant authorities in order to work on the proper implementation of existing bilateral agreements. As regards migration, they agreed to establish a dialogue channel to address issues of mutual interest and to convene a meeting next September to discuss border issues. 

In addition, they called for the strengthening of technical cooperation in the context of the Cooperation Programme 2017-2019, which includes projects on health, agroindustry and human rights, as well as initiatives on triangular cooperation with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ).

The Ministers ratified their willingness to continue making progress in a coordinated fashion on the fair and equitable use of shared water resources, for the benefit of both peoples.
