On the occasion of April 2, the 24 teams of the Professional Football League joined minutes before the start of the matches the tribute that all the Argentine people pay to the fallen and veterans who bravely fought for our sovereignty in the Malvinas Islands.
Before visibly moved veterans in the 12 stadiums across the country where the eight round of the First Division tournament was played, the players raised flags with the legend “Las Malvinas son Argentinas”, which translates as "The Malvinas are Argentine", a motto that that is in the hearts of all the fans and of all Argentines
The initiative was jointly promoted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Nation and the Secretariat of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The teams of Aldosivi, Argentinos Juniors, Arsenal, Atlético Tucumán, Banfield, Boca Juniors, Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero, Colón, Defensa y Justicia, Estudiantes de La Plata, Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, Godoy Cruz, Huracán, Independiente, Lanús, Newell’s Old Boys, Patronato, Racing Club, River Plate, Rosario Central, San Lorenzo, Talleres, Unión de Santa Fe and Vélez Sarsfield were photographed with the banner “Las Malvinas son Argentinas”.
The Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, thanked “the teams of the Professional Football League for having joined in celebrating the Day of the Veterans and Fallen of the Malvinas War.
“Honoring those who fought in the Malvinas Islands requires recognizing them, supporting them from the State and deepening the work to recover the exercise of sovereignty”, he said and also highlighted “the double commitment of President Alberto Fernández who keeps alive the claim to recover the exercise of sovereignty over the archipelago and the corresponding maritime spaces and also advances in improvements for veterans through three bills”.
