On May 22 and 23, in Paris, Argentina took part in the OECD's Ministerial Council Meeting and the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), with a view to discussing key issues pertaining to the future of global economy.

The Argentine delegation was headed by the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser, who stated that the country's presence in both organizations reaffirms Argentina's commitment to consolidating a modern and competitive economy with the highest international standards.

In the context of the OECD meeting, discussions centred around the impact of digital commerce in the current economy. Argentina, along with other 41 countries, signed the first international instrument on artificial intelligence (AI). The document addresses public policy principles and recommendations for a more responsible use of AI, with values focusing on the human being and job preservation.

In turn, at the meeting of WTO, which is in charge of regulating international trade, progress was made on the reform of the organization. At the meeting, Argentina helped identify specific elements for the strengthening, modernization and reform of the organization, highlighting the need to face the challenges of the 21st century and to resolve pending issues, such as agriculture, fishing subsidies and services.

The meeting included a Ministerial Statement on National Services Regulation, which was signed by Argentina and other 58 members and acknowledges the importance of promoting good practices that facilitate service trade, while calling for concrete results in that field. This sector, one of the most dynamic ones in international trade, generates global exports amounting to USD 5.3 trillion. In the case of Argentina, services represent 18.6% of its total exports.
