During President Mauricio Macri's visit to India this past February, a health agreement that provided an opening of the Asian giant's market for Argentine lemons was reached. The details were finalized during a later visit by the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, with the support of the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
The Argentine company San Miguel concluded an agreement for the sale of lemons with the company I.G. Internacional, one of the largest and most prestigious fruit importers in India.
Given that the 24,000 kg of export quality lemons from the first shipment were produced almost entirely in Tucumán province, this Indian market opening is of major importance for that regional economy.
The lemons arrived in Mumbai on 25 September and marked the first of a series of shipments that will, from now on, allow this Argentine product to reach major Indian supermarkets and their customers, who are known for their high standards. They are also available for purchase online, which is the preferred method of shopping of Indian consumers.
