In the presence of Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie and Secretary of Culture Pablo Avelluto, the Directorate for Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship issued today an Open Invitation to Bid Visual Arts Projects for the Argentine Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition - Venice Biennale, whose slogan, chosen by general curator Ralph Rugoff, will be: "May you live in interesting times".
During the event, Faurie stated that "we have had our own Pavilion for the past few years. For this next edition, we are implementing an open invitation to bid. We encourage everyone to participate, which has a special value and, hopefully, a federal value as well."
The Foreign Minister underscored "the support and expectations aroused among artists" thanks to the initiative.
All artists and curators must be Argentine nationals and must live and work in Argentina in order to participate. Moreover, the work annexed to the project and the curatorial proposal must be original.
The jury will be chaired by the Director for Cultural Affairs, Ambassador Sergio Baur, and Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi and will be comprised of architect Andrés Duprat, Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts; Laura Malosetti Costa from the National Academy of Fine Arts; visual artist Jorge Macchi; and the Ad Honorem Advisory Council of the Directorate for Cultural Affairs.
The Ad Honorem Advisory Council is comprised of Teresa Anchorena, Eleonora Jaureguiberry, Adriana Rosenberg, Mauro Herlitzka and Esteban Tedesco.
For the first time since 1901, the Invitation to bid will be open to the public in order to guarantee its transparency and federal nature.
The deadline to present projects will be 31 October 2018.
During the first half of November 2018, the winning project will be announced and will later be displayed at the Argentine Pavilion in the Venetian Arsenal of the Biennale from May to November 2019.
