We welcome the appointment of Congressman Julio Borges as Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Affairs of Venezuela.

Congressman Borges is a committed advocate for democracy and for the restoration of the civil and political freedoms of his fellow countrymen.

Argentina, as a kindred nation in Latin America, will continue to work alongside Interim President Juan Guaidó and his team, now with Julio Borges in charge of Foreign Affairs, to restore the full force of democratic institutions and the freedom of Venezuelans, together with the other members of the Lima Group.

Buenos Aires, 28 August 2019

National Assembly Congressman Julio Borges is a lawyer with broad experience in politics. He is the founder of the Primero Justicia party and was elected National Assembly Congressman for the State of Miranda for the periods 2000/05, 2010/15 and 2016/21.

Congressman Borges was the President of the National Assembly between 2017 and 2018. Due to the persecution by Nicolás Maduro's regime, as a result of which he was stripped of his parliamentary immunity, Congressman Borges was forced into exile in Colombia. He has been the Representative of Venezuela to the Lima Group since January 2019, appointed by Interim President Juan Guaidó.
