Analysis of trade and consumption perspectives - Kuwait

July, 2025

Kuwait is the fourth largest economy among the Gulf countries and the second largest in terms of GDP per capita. Oil activity accounts for 50% of total economic activity, while the agricultural sector is very limited due to lack of water and fertile land.

The population is expected to grow slightly by 2040, with a marked increase in the population over 60 years of age, which provides an indication of the profile of products that the Kuwaiti population may demand in the coming years.

This is a market that is highly dependent on foreign trade. Regarding foodstuffs in particular, imports cover 95% of its needs. Consumption is projected to grow in the coming years, mainly that of milk and dairy products, cereals and meats. Opportunities are also opening up for increased demand for healthy, organic products and foods, and snacks with innovative flavours, as well as for the exportable supply of gourmet products for high-end hotels and restaurants.

This report summarises these consumption prospects and the trade opportunities to be explored in the Kuwaiti market and adds to the series of studies for Asian and African markets published by the CEI.
