Carbon footprint labelling is at the core of the discussions related to the environmental impact of products, but there are also other environmental issues regarding the sustainability of products that could also have an impact on exports from developing countries in the future. This study addresses the analysis of this issue, focusing on the connection between international trade and eco-labelling systems, specifically those related to the carbon footprint. A review of the main international initiatives on the subject is presented and their likely consequences on trade and the economy are analysed. The study concludes with an analysis of Argentine exports that could be affected by this type of labelling and an assessment of the impact that this should have on some selected export products.
