An exhibition was opened and a book was presented on the architecture of the Malvinas between 1764 and 1833

Video. Foreign Minister Felipe Solá, the Minister of Culture, Tristán Bauer, and the Secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Daniel Filmus, participated in the presentation of the exhibition and the book “Architecture and planning in the Malvinas 1764-1833” on the eve of commemorating the bicentennial of the first raising of the Argentine flag in the Islands.

The activity took place in the Reader’s Square of the National Library and was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Foreign Ministry and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI). The event was also attended by the director of the OEI Argentina Office, Luis Scasso; the director of the National Library, Juan Sasturain; the Undersecretary of International Affairs for Defense of the Ministry of Defense, Roberto De Luise; the ambassadors of Uruguay and Peru in Argentina, Carlos Enciso and Peter Camino Cannock; and the founder of the Documentation Center of Latin American Architecture (CEDODAL in the Spanish acronym), Ramón Gutiérrez.

The sample collects the evidence of the occupation and settlement of the Malvinas between 1764 and 1833, proving the existence of an effective nucleus of stable daily life on the islands and claiming the character of the true original inhabitants.

The itinerary presents a series of maps, plans and photographs that illustrate the different historical periods of the Malvinas, with a focus on the architecture and history of the Islands through a photographic tour that will be displayed throughout the summer in the square located at Las Heras Avenue and Agüero.

The 15-panel exhibition covers the period from the 16th century to the mid-19th century, following a chronological line from the discovery of the Malvinas. 16th and 17th centuries: the French expedition in 1764; French engineers and their work. 18th century: the organization of the French colony. 18th century: the first English invasion. 1770: the Spanish expel the English. 1770: the Spanish administration. 18th and 19th centuries: Spanish expeditions. 18th century: from Spain to Argentine independence. 19th century: Vernet and the organization of the Malvinas. 19th century: the administration of the Malvinas. 19th century: British occupation. 19th century and the new settlement of the English.
